KEMRI JOB VACANCY | Data Clerk (Community Interviewer)

 

Job Summary:

The Data Clerk (Community Interviewer) will play a crucial role in the Burden of Respiratory Disease among the Elderly Study within the DGHP Branch, a collaboration between the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI), Washington State University (WSU), and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The study aims to understand the incidence of respiratory illness among the elderly population and estimate costs associated with influenza disease in this demographic. The Data Clerk will be responsible for identifying, consenting, recruiting, and following up with eligible study participants. This role requires flexibility, professionalism, ethics, competence, accountability, and integrity.


Key Responsibilities:

- Assist in identifying potential study participants

- Consent and recruit eligible participants

- Ensure consistent implementation of the research protocol

- Schedule participants for follow-up visits

- Accurately and completely complete study forms

- Ensure timely availability of necessary supplies

- Collaborate with the data team to resolve queries

- Maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive research information

- Participate in monthly program meetings

- Build and maintain positive relationships with Ministry of Health (MOH) staff, Community Health Volunteers (CHVs), and the community

- Perform any other duties as assigned by the study management


Qualifications:

- KCSE mean grade of D+ and above or equivalent from a recognized institution

- Fluency in written and spoken Luo, English, and Swahili

- Possession of GCP (Good Clinical Practice) certificate is an added advantage

- Valid motorcycle rider’s license and ability to ride a motorcycle

- Experience in electronic data collection using smartphones or tablets

- Resident in the study area or willing to live and work there

- Experience working in a research or hospital setting is an added advantage

- Ability to maintain project schedules and work extra hours as needed

- Ability to work independently and complete duties in a timely manner with minimal supervision

- Attention to detail and strong work ethics

- Report-writing skills and clear record-keeping abilities

Terms of Employment: This is a one-year contract, renewable subject to fund availability, with a probation period for the first 3 months. Salary is negotiable within the KEMRI scheme of service, depending on education, experience, and demonstrated competency.
