Job Opportunity: Senior Child Protection Officer at rescue org

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is seeking a Senior Child Protection Officer to work in Kakuma, Rift Valley, Kenya. The IRC responds to humanitarian crises globally, focusing on health, safety, education, economic well-being, and empowerment for those affected by conflict and disaster. The Child Protection Senior Officer will ensure the provision of safe and appropriate child protection response and prevention services. Responsibilities:

Program Implementation and Quality:

- Plan, supervise, and oversee prevention and response activities for children and their families.

- Lead referral mechanisms, service mapping, and training of service providers on appropriate referral pathways.


Budget Management:

- Ensure adherence to IRC and donor financial policies and regulations.

- Timely raise PRs for grants, oversee procurement, and manage budget utilization progress.


Program Monitoring and Reporting:

- Document all program activities and services using agreed monitoring tools.

- Support the maintenance of IRC’s Information Management System(s) and submit regular reports.


Staff Supervision and Development:

- Directly supervise CP staff, providing regular supervision, coaching, and guidance.

- Mentor and support staff’s professional development, fostering a positive team spirit.


Coordination & Representation:

- Collaborate with CP Manager, IRC programs, partners, and other service providers.

- Advocate for timely and quality responses for at-risk children and their families.


Other:

- Monitor safety and security of the CP team, reporting concerns promptly.

- Perform other tasks as requested by the supervisor.


Minimum Qualifications:

- BA/BSC or MA or Diploma in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, or related Social Science field.

- Required work experience: BA/BSC (2 years), MA (1 year), Diploma (5 years) in child protection programs.


Preferred Experience & Skills:

- Understanding of case management and PSS for healing and recovery.

- Previous experience leading teams on CP response strategies.

- Excellent communication skills and ability to work well in a team setting.


Language Skills:

- Fluent in English; local language spoken in Turkana/Kakuma is a plus.


Certificates or Licenses:

- Trained and certified in CP topics preferred.
